What Is LanguageCert SELT?

LanguageCert International ESOL is an English language certification developed by PeopleCert, a global leader in certifying professional and language skills. LanguageCert SELT (Secure English Language Test) is specifically approved by the UK Home Office as an accepted English test for UK visa and immigration applications. Unlike general English tests, SELT exams must be taken at approved, secure test centres under strictly controlled conditions — no online testing allowed for SELT versions.

What makes LanguageCert stand out is its flexibility: three distinct test types designed for different visa pathways, on-demand test scheduling (no fixed monthly dates like IELTS), and fast results within 3–5 working days. For Indian students and immigrants, LanguageCert offers a modern, efficient alternative to IELTS UKVI — often at a lower cost and with shorter test durations. If you are considering study in the UK or study in Australia, LanguageCert deserves serious consideration.

Three Types of LanguageCert SELT Tests Explained

LanguageCert offers three SELT test types, each designed for specific UK visa categories. Choosing the wrong test means your visa application will be rejected — so understanding the differences is critical:

LanguageCert for UK Visas: Which Test for Your Visa Type

The UK Home Office requires different CEFR levels and skill combinations for different visa types. Here is the complete visa-to-test mapping for LanguageCert:

LanguageCert for Australia: The Game-Changing 2025 Approval

In a landmark decision, the Australian Department of Home Affairs approved LanguageCert Academic for ALL Australian visa types from August 7, 2025. This is a game-changer for Indian students and skilled workers: LanguageCert Academic is now accepted alongside IELTS and PTE for visas including Subclass 500 (Student), Subclass 485 (Temporary Graduate), Subclass 189/190 (Skilled Independent PR), and more.

For Indian students targeting Australia, LanguageCert Academic at ₹16,430 (India fixed) is competitively priced against IELTS (₹19,000) and PTE (₹18,900) when you factor in faster results and flexible scheduling. LanguageCert Test Format & Duration

Understanding the exact test format helps you prepare efficiently. Here is the breakdown by test type:

SELT Speaking & Listening (S&L) — 11 to 13 Minutes

The S&L test is remarkably short — just 11 to 13 minutes total. It includes a speaking component where you respond to prompts and a listening component with comprehension questions. This test is available at CEFR levels A1, A2, and B1 depending on your visa requirement. The brevity makes it less stressful than longer exams, but preparation is still essential as every second counts.

General SELT & Academic SELT — Approximately 2.5 Hours

Both the General SELT (B1, 4 skills) and Academic SELT (B2, 4 skills) test all four English skills: Speaking, Listening, Reading, and Writing. The total duration is approximately 2.5 hours. The Academic SELT tests at a higher level (B2 upper-intermediate) than the General SELT (B1 intermediate), reflecting the more demanding English requirements for university study and high-skilled professional roles.

LanguageCert Scoring & CEFR Levels

LanguageCert uses the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) — the internationally recognized standard for describing language ability:

Your LanguageCert certificate will state whether you achieved the target CEFR level — it is a pass/fail outcome at each level, not a band score like IELTS. For Australian visas, LanguageCert Academic provides a numerical score (0–100 per skill), and "Competent English" means at least 57 listening, 60 reading, 64 writing and 70 speaking — four different thresholds, not one.

LanguageCert Fee in India 2026

LanguageCert test fees for Indian applicants are denominated in GBP or USD depending on the test type. Here is the fee structure in both currencies:
