LanguageCert SELT 2026 is a UK Home Office approved Secure English Language Test (SELT) developed by PeopleCert — and it is rapidly becoming the smart choice for Indian test takers applying for UK and Australian visas. Whether you need a quick 11-minute Speaking & Listening test for a UK spouse visa or a comprehensive 4-skills Academic SELT for the UK Student Route, LanguageCert SELT 2026 offers on-demand testing, results in just 3–5 working days, and fees starting from £160 (~₹16,800). With LanguageCert Academic now accepted for ALL Australian visa types since August 7, 2025, this test opens doors to two of the world's top study and immigration destinations from a single exam. This complete 2026 guide from LanguageCert coaching at EEC — 27+ years of experience, 50,000+ students guided — covers every test type, format, scoring system, fee, registration process, and visa requirement you need to know as an Indian applicant.

What Is LanguageCert SELT?

LanguageCert International ESOL is an English language certification developed by PeopleCert, a global leader in certifying professional and language skills. LanguageCert SELT (Secure English Language Test) is specifically approved by the UK Home Office as an accepted English test for UK visa and immigration applications. Unlike general English tests, SELT exams must be taken at approved, secure test centres under strictly controlled conditions — no online testing allowed for SELT versions.

What makes LanguageCert stand out is its flexibility: three distinct test types designed for different visa pathways, on-demand test scheduling (no fixed monthly dates like IELTS), and fast results within 3–5 working days. For Indian students and immigrants, LanguageCert offers a modern, efficient alternative to IELTS UKVI — often at a lower cost and with shorter test durations. If you are considering study in the UK or study in Australia, LanguageCert deserves serious consideration.

Pro Tip

LanguageCert SELT is the ONLY English test that offers both UK visa acceptance (Home Office approved) AND Australian visa acceptance (from August 2025) — making it a dual-destination test. If you are unsure between UK and Australia, LanguageCert covers both with a single test preparation effort.

Three Types of LanguageCert SELT Tests Explained

LanguageCert offers three SELT test types, each designed for specific UK visa categories. Choosing the wrong test means your visa application will be rejected — so understanding the differences is critical:

LanguageCert Academic SELTS + L + R + W (4 skills)B2~2.5 hoursfrom £190 (~₹19,950)UK Student Route, High Potential Individual
LanguageCert Academic (AU)S + L + R + W (4 skills)Multiple~2.5 hoursUS$240 (~₹20,160)ALL Australian visa types (from Aug 2025)

Warning

Choosing the wrong test type is the #1 mistake Indian applicants make. A UK spouse visa applicant needs SELT S&L (A1), NOT the Academic SELT. A UK Student Route applicant needs Academic SELT (B2), NOT SELT S&L. Read our detailed which LanguageCert for your UK visa guide before booking.

LanguageCert for Australia: The Game-Changing 2025 Approval

In a landmark decision, the Australian Department of Home Affairs approved LanguageCert Academic for ALL Australian visa types from August 7, 2025. This is a game-changer for Indian students and skilled workers: LanguageCert Academic is now accepted alongside IELTS and PTE for visas including Subclass 500 (Student), Subclass 485 (Temporary Graduate), Subclass 189/190 (Skilled Independent PR), and more.

Good News

LanguageCert Academic validity for Australian visas is 3 years — one year longer than IELTS (2 years). This gives you more flexibility in your immigration timeline. Read the full details in our LanguageCert for Australia visa guide.

For Indian students targeting Australia, LanguageCert Academic at US$240 (~₹20,160) is competitively priced against IELTS (₹16,250) and PTE (₹15,900) when you factor in faster results and flexible scheduling. EEC offers comprehensive preparation for both UK and Australia pathways — explore study in Australia with EEC guidance or compare with PTE coaching for Australia.

LanguageCert Test Format & Duration

Understanding the exact test format helps you prepare efficiently. Here is the breakdown by test type:

SELT Speaking & Listening (S&L) — 11 to 13 Minutes

The S&L test is remarkably short — just 11 to 13 minutes total. It includes a speaking component where you respond to prompts and a listening component with comprehension questions. This test is available at CEFR levels A1, A2, and B1 depending on your visa requirement. The brevity makes it less stressful than longer exams, but preparation is still essential as every second counts.

General SELT & Academic SELT — Approximately 2.5 Hours

Both the General SELT (B1, 4 skills) and Academic SELT (B2, 4 skills) test all four English skills: Speaking, Listening, Reading, and Writing. The total duration is approximately 2.5 hours. The Academic SELT tests at a higher level (B2 upper-intermediate) than the General SELT (B1 intermediate), reflecting the more demanding English requirements for university study and high-skilled professional roles.

LanguageCert Scoring & CEFR Levels

LanguageCert uses the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) — the internationally recognized standard for describing language ability:

← Swipe left to see more columns →

CEFR Levels and UK Visa Requirements 2026
CEFR LevelDescriptionUK Visa Requirement
A1BeginnerSpouse/Partner visa (initial application)
A2ElementaryFamily visa (further leave to remain)
B1IntermediateILR/Settlement, Citizenship, Skilled Worker
B2Upper IntermediateStudent Route, High Potential Individual
C1AdvancedNot required by UKVI but available
C2ProficiencyNot required by UKVI but available

Your LanguageCert certificate will state whether you achieved the target CEFR level — it is a pass/fail outcome at each level, not a band score like IELTS. For Australian visas, LanguageCert Academic provides a numerical score (0–100 per component), where 64+ per component equals "Competent English."

Yes. Since August 7, 2025, LanguageCert Academic is accepted for ALL Australian visa types including Subclass 500 (Student), Subclass 485 (Graduate), and Subclass 189/190 (PR). Score requirement: 64+ per component for Competent English. Validity: 3 years.
LanguageCert SELT fees: S&L test from £160 (~₹16,800), General SELT from £190 (~₹19,950), Academic SELT from £190 (~₹19,950), Academic for Australia US$240 (~₹20,160). EEC coaching is a separate ₹7,500 all-inclusive.

Difficulty depends on personal strengths. LanguageCert advantages: shorter S&L test (11 min vs 22 min for IELTS Life Skills), computer-recorded speaking (less intimidating for some), faster results (3-5 days vs 5-13 days). IELTS advantages: more practice material available, more test centres in India (50+ vs fewer).
LanguageCert SELT scores are valid for 2 years for UK visa applications and 3 years for Australian visa applications. The 3-year Australian validity is one year longer than IELTS, which is a significant advantage for PR applicants.
LanguageCert SELT is available at approved test centres in major Indian cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, and others in the SELT test centre network. Check selt.languagecert.org for the latest available centres.
LanguageCert SELT results are available within 3-5 working days after the test date — significantly faster than IELTS (5-13 days). Results are accessible through your online account on the LanguageCert portal.
Yes. The UK Skilled Worker visa requires LanguageCert General SELT at CEFR B1 level, testing all 4 skills (Speaking, Listening, Reading, Writing). Duration: approximately 2.5 hours. Fee: from £190 (~₹19,950).
