3 years — for Subclass 189, 190, 491, 186, and most other visas

12 months only — for Subclass 485 (Temporary Graduate Visa)

Tip: If you're on a 485 and transitioning to 189/190, take the test early — the 3-year validity applies for PR subclasses.

When updating your EOI in SkillSelect or lodging via ImmiAccount, select:

Do NOT select SELT, International ESOL, or General — these will be rejected.

Important for Australian Residents

•Take2 retake scores are NOT accepted by DHA — you must pass all 4 components in a single sitting

•Only the 'LanguageCert Academic' variant is accepted — not SELT (that's UK only)

•Online/at-home test is NOT accepted — must be taken at an approved Test Centre

•Some skills assessment bodies (ACS, Engineers Australia, VETASSESS) may have separate English requirements — check with your assessor

•State nomination (190/491) may require higher English than the federal minimum — check your state's occupation list

•Keep your test report safe — DHA may request the original URN for verification
