FAQs

Common questions about Estonia.

Very Limited. Top public universities (Tartu, TalTech) usually DO NOT accept MOI from India/Nigeria. They require IELTS/TOEFL. Some private colleges (Mainor, EBS) may accept it with an internal interview.

Masters & PhD students: YES. Bachelor's: Difficult (need 2 years residence). You need to show €800/mo (4× subsistence level; rising to €880/mo in 2026) for student PBGB + ~€280/mo (Spouse). Source: politsei.ee.

YES! This is a huge advantage. Spouses get FULL work rights without needing a separate work permit. They can work for any employer or be self-employed.

5-Year Rule. Student years count as HALF (50%). Example: 2-year Masters = 1 year towards PR. You need 5 years of continuous residence + B1 Estonian Language.

Public transport is FREE for registered residents of Tallinn. In Tartu it is NOT free for general students — a resident 30-day pass costs €18.50/month (rising to €21.30 from 1 July 2026, per tartu.ee). Free travel in Tartu applies only to specific groups (e.g., aged 65+).
