Citizenship: New Rules effective 6 June 2026

Current: 5 yrs general / 3 yrs spouse of a Swedish citizen. From 6 June 2026: requirement extends to 8 yrs general / 7 yrs spouse. Sweden also introduces a Society Knowledge Test (samhällskunskapsprov) from August 2026; a language proficiency test is being prepared for a later date. PR (permanent residence permit) rules remain separate from citizenship.
