You only pay a semester contribution of €150-400 which covers transport, student services, and admin fees. Exception: Baden-Württemberg state charges €1,500 per semester for non-EU students. Total first-year budget from India is approximately ₹15-20 Lakhs. For private universities, add ₹7-12 Lakhs for tuition. After arriving, you can work and earn €800-1,000/month part-time to cover living costs.
Germany has 2 main intakes: 1) Winter Semester (October start) - This is the MAIN intake with maximum courses available. Apply by July 15. Blocked Account (Sperrkonto) is a special bank account where you deposit €11,904 (2026 amount) before getting your visa. This proves you can financially support yourself for 1 year. After you arrive in Germany, you get €992/month released from this account. Approved providers: Expatrio, Fintiba, Coracle, Deutsche Bank. It takes 2-3 days to open online. This money is YOURS - you use it for living expenses!
It depends on your program: 1) English-taught Masters - No German required, but A1/A2 helps in daily life, 2) German-taught programs - Need B2/C1 German (TestDaF or DSH), 3) Public universities prefer German knowledge even for English programs, 4) For jobs and PR, German is essential (B1 minimum).
