Yes, CAEL offers both traditional computer-delivered test center options and an at-home online testing format. Both formats are officially recognized; however, test-takers must verify that their specific target institution and visa pathway explicitly accept the online testing variant before registering.

Both are accepted by Canadian institutions and IRCC. However, CAEL is purpose-built for the Canadian academic context — it tests integrated skills (reading + listening + writing on a single topic) that mirror actual university demands. Many students find CAEL's format more natural and practical compared to IELTS's modular approach. For SDS applications, both are equally valid. While live attendance is strongly recommended for maximum benefit — especially for speaking and integrated task practice — recorded sessions are available on the LMS for review within 24 hours. However, the interactive components (speaking practice, peer evaluation, real-time writing feedback) cannot be replicated through recordings, so consistent attendance is key to achieving your target score.
