FAQs

Common questions about Switzerland.

NO. Non-EU students can start part-time work only after 6 MONTHS of starting their studies. After that: 15 hours/week during semester, full-time during breaks. Note: Switzerland has NO federal minimum wage.
ETH Zurich and EPFL charge CHF 2,190/semester for international students (from autumn 2025, tripled from CHF 730). Other cantonal universities: CHF 500–2,000/semester. Private hospitality schools: CHF 20,000–40,000/year.
Permanent Residency (C Permit) is regularly granted after 10 Years of continuous residence for non-EU citizens (Art. 34 para 2 FNIA). It can be obtained after 5 Years with successful integration — language proficiency, stable income, no criminal record — under Art. 34 para 4 FNIA.
Mostly NO. Spouses of international students generally do not get automatic work rights. They can only work if they find an employer to sponsor a specific work visa for them.
You must show approx CHF 21,000 (₹23.1 Lakhs) for 1 year of living costs. This can be in a Savings Account (3-6 months old), FD, or Education Loan.
Some Swiss universities require 12+4 years of education for Masters. However, many Private Institutes accept 12+3 (Indian Bachelors). Check specific entry requirements.
Non-EU/EFTA graduates get a 6-month job seeker residence permit. You need CHF 10,500 in a blocked bank account. You can work max 15 hrs/week during the search. This permit is not extendable. EU/EFTA graduates get 3+3 months. Plan your job search before graduation.
