YES. NEET-UG qualification is mandatory for Indian students per NMC Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate Regulations 2021. Score is valid for 3 years for foreign MBBS admission. You must clear FMGE — the operative Indian licensing exam as of 2026 (NExT is notified by NMC but its rollout for foreign medical graduates remains pending — verify nmc.org.in) — to practice in India.

Yes — per NMC FMGL Regulations 2021, the MBBS must be at least 54 months of coursework PLUS 12 months of internship at the same university in the same country. Russian 6-year MBBS programmes structured as 5+1 (5 years course + 1 year internship at the same university hospital) comply, but you must confirm the specific university is currently on the NMC FMG approved list at nmc.org.in before commitment.

The Invitation Letter (Visa Support Document) is issued by GUVM (Glavnoye Upravleniye po Voprosam Migratsii) under the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs at your host university's request. Statutory processing time is up to 15 working days (per MVD Order No. 844, effective Dec 2022; reduced from the prior 20 working days). Apply early — this is one of the longer steps.

Initially, a 90-Day Single-Entry Student Visa filed at the Russian Consulate via VFS (Mumbai/Delhi/Chennai/Kolkata). Consular fee + VFS fee runs roughly ₹6,500-₹15,200 (standard vs express); some travel routes / sources list USD 200-250 equivalent. On arrival, the university extends it to a Full-Term Multiple-Entry Visa. Migration registration is mandatory within 7 working days of arrival (Federal Law 109-FZ).

Theory in Year 1-2 is English at Category 1 universities, BUT Russian language A1-A2 is taught from Year 1 and is required from Year 3 onwards for clinical rotations with Russian-speaking patients. Some NMC-approved Russian universities mandate B1 Russian by Year 4. Plan for Russian language as part of the academic load.

Federal Law 16-FZ (effective August 2020) amended Law 115-FZ so full-time foreign students at state-accredited Russian universities can work WITHOUT a separate work permit, in their free time from studies (Article 13(4)(7.1)) — there is NO 20 hr/week statutory cap (the old Article 13.4 cap was repealed). Wages are modest (₽15,000–25,000/mo typical). MBBS is high-pressure — most counsellors advise against working in the first 3 years.

As of 2026, Russian MBBS programmes for Indian students are continuing normally. NMC has not blanket-disqualified Russian universities — but the FMG list is revisited periodically. Visa, GUVM invitation, university payments via Sberbank India INR-to-RUB rail (RBI-licensed AD-II partners), and Aeroflot direct DEL-SVO flights remain functional. Verify your specific university's current NMC FMG status before any fee transfer.
