Restricted: Max 16 Hours/Week. Employer must apply for a Work Permit (TWV) for you. Processing takes 5 weeks.

Self-Employed

UNLIMITED HOURS: No work permit needed. You can work as a Freelancer (ZZP) for UberEats, Temper, or IT gigs.

Option 1: University Deposit

Tuition: Transfer 1 Year Fee.

Refund: Uni refunds living money to your Dutch bank account after arrival.
Benefit: No bank statement needed for visa.

Option 2: Own Funds

FAQs

Common questions about Netherlands.

After graduation, you get a 12-Month Orientation Year (Zoekjaar) permit to find a job as a Highly Skilled Migrant. Apply within 3 years of graduation (IND 2026 fee: €254; cannot be extended). You have full work rights (unlimited hours, any salary level) during this period. Can only be used once per degree level.

This is a Healthcare Allowance. Since you pay for mandatory Dutch Health Insurance, the government refunds approx €120/month to your account if your income is low. It basically makes insurance free!

Employment requires a work permit (TWV) and is capped at 16hrs/week. Self-Employment (Freelancing/UberEats/Temper) requires NO permit and has UNLIMITED hours. Most students choose Option B.

It depends. For the *first year* visa, most universities require 100% tuition + living deposit upfront. From the 2nd year onwards, you can pay in installments.

Dutch student visa rejection rate is extremely low (<1%) if the university sponsors you (TEV procedure) and funds are transferred to them. Rejections usually happen only due to fake documents.
