What is the Germany Opportunity Card (Chancenkarte)?+
The Opportunity Card is a points-based job-search visa that lets skilled non-EU professionals live in Germany for up to 12 months to find qualified work. Unlike older job-seeker visas, it allows part-time work up to 20 hours/week and 2-week trial employment with any employer. EEC handles the complete process for ₹35,000.
Am I eligible for the Opportunity Card?+
Two pathways. Pathway A (Direct): a fully recognised foreign degree (e.g. an Indian degree with Anabin "H+" status) qualifies you as a Skilled Worker — no points needed. Pathway B (Points): a recognised degree or 2+ years vocational training, German A1 or English B2, and proof of funds, then score at least 6 of 14 points. EEC assesses your profile free.
How does the 14-point matrix work?+
Points come from qualification recognition (4), professional experience (2-3), German language (1-3), age (1-2), shortage occupation (1), prior German residence (1), and concurrent spouse application (1). You need 6 of 14. Upgrading a language certificate (e.g. English B2→C1, German A1→A2) is the fastest way to cross the threshold — EEC also offers the coaching.
How much money do I need for the Opportunity Card?+
You must prove financial sustenance, almost always via a German Blocked Account (Sperrkonto) of €992/month — €11,904 locked for the 12-month visa (2025-26 BAföG rate). Plus the embassy fee €75 (~₹6,700-7,500), VFS charges ~₹3,200, and incoming health insurance (min €30,000 cover). EEC's professional service fee is ₹35,000.

How long does Opportunity Card processing take?+
After biometrics and document submission at VFS, the German missions in India typically take 4-12 weeks, longer in peak periods or when Federal Employment Agency verification is needed. Start the Anabin/ZAB recognition several months early — EEC tracks every deadline.
Do I need German language skills for the Opportunity Card?+
For Pathway A (recognised degree) no language is mandatory. For Pathway B you need at least German A1 or English B2 to enter the points system; higher levels add points (German B2 = 3 points, English C1 = 1 point). EEC offers German A1 and IELTS/PTE coaching to bridge the gap.
Can I work in Germany on the Opportunity Card?+
Yes. You may work part-time up to 20 hours per week in any job (not just your field) to support yourself while searching, plus unlimited 2-week trial work per prospective employer. Once you secure qualified employment you switch to a work permit or EU Blue Card.
