German A1 is the minimum proof of basic German skills required for several Germany visa categories — family reunion visa for spouses (Ehegattennachzug) mandatorily requires A1, Au Pair visa requires A1, and many work visas (skilled migration via Chancenkarte, Bundesagentur job seeker visa) strongly recommend A1. For German-taught university programs, you need B2 or C1, but A1 is the foundation. The Goethe Institut A1 certificate is the most widely accepted format by German embassies and authorities.

Goethe Institut is the official German cultural and language institute, founded by the German government. The Goethe Institut Start Deutsch A1 (or Goethe Zertifikat A1) is the gold-standard A1 certification — internationally recognised, has no expiry, and accepted by all German embassies worldwide for visa purposes. EEC trains you to the Goethe A1 exam syllabus specifically, including the official test format and timing.

Most EEC students complete German A1 in 2 to 3 months of focused study (around 60 to 100 contact hours). The CEFR A1 level requires you to handle introductions, daily routines, simple questions, basic written communication, and short conversations on familiar topics. We run daily live classes (weekday evenings and weekends), structured around all four skills, with German-fluent trainers (some native, some Indians who studied in Germany) and conversation practice from week one.

German A1 coaching at EEC is ₹7,500 — the same flat fee for all our language and test prep courses. This includes 1-year membership, all study materials (Schritte International or Menschen A1, plus EEC custom workbook), full-length Goethe A1 mock tests, daily live classes (online or classroom), conversation practice with German-fluent trainers, and recorded class library. The Goethe-Zertifikat A1 exam fee at Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan India centres is ₹7,500 for external candidates (2026 national rate) — paid separately to Goethe. Higher Goethe levels: A2 ₹10,600 · B1/B2 full ₹18,800–₹21,200 · C1/C2 full ₹24,000–₹26,000.

Goethe Institut centres in India (Max Mueller Bhavan) operate in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, and Pune. Exam sessions are held every 1 to 2 months. Registration is online via the Goethe Institut India website. EEC helps you choose between Goethe A1, telc A1, and ÖSD A1 (Austrian variant) depending on your visa or university requirement.

Yes. EEC runs daily live online German A1 classes via Zoom with German-fluent trainers. Online students get free book delivery anywhere in India, full mock Goethe A1 access, weekly one-on-one conversation practice, personalised pronunciation review (umlauts and German phonetics), and recorded class library. Many of our online students from Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore have cleared Goethe A1 entirely online and gone on to A2, B1, B2 for Germany study or work.

For German-taught Bachelor or Master programs, A1 is not sufficient — you need B2 or C1 (DSH/TestDaF). For English-taught Master programs in Germany (very common in STEM and Engineering), you typically do not need German for admission, but A1 is strongly recommended for visa, daily life, and Chancenkarte points. For family reunion visa (your spouse joining you), A1 is mandatory and a deal-breaker if missing.

After your Goethe A1, EEC provides free Germany study abroad counselling — APS verification, university shortlisting (TU Munich, RWTH Aachen, KIT, Heidelberg, etc.), blocked account (Sperrkonto) setup, student visa documentation, and pre-departure briefing. We also assist with Chancenkarte (opportunity card), Bundesagentur job seeker visa, and Au Pair visa applications. Many EEC German students now live and work in Berlin, Munich, Frankfurt, and Hamburg.
