PTE Academic vs PTE Core for Immigration

PTE Academic is accepted for immigration to Australia, New Zealand, and the UK. It is also accepted by 3,000+ universities worldwide for study purposes.

PTE Core is accepted ONLY by IRCC for Canada immigration (Express Entry, PNPs, citizenship, PGWP). It is NOT accepted by any other country or university.

Australia — PTE Academic

The #1 PTE destination for Indian students. PTE 65 (Competent, mandatory), PTE 79 (Proficient, +10 points), PTE 90 (Superior, +20 points). Canada — PTE Core

Targeting Multiple Countries?

Australia + New Zealand: One PTE Academic score works for both. Prepare once, apply to both.

Australia + UK: PTE Academic works for both (SELT-approved for UK). Ensure you take PTE at a SELT-approved centre if UK is one of your targets.

Australia + Canada: You need BOTH PTE Academic (for Australia) AND PTE Core (for Canada). There is no single PTE test for both. Alternatively, IELTS Academic works for Australia and IELTS GT for Canada — two tests but at least the same test brand.

Canada + anything else: PTE Core works for Canada only. If you are also targeting Australia, NZ, or UK, you need PTE Academic as well.
