What are you taking French A1 for?

French-category Express Entry

Category draws for French speakers have cut far below the general rounds. The gate is NCLC 7 in all four abilities on TEF Canada or TCF Canada, roughly CEFR B2, which is several levels above where a beginner starts.

The 25 and 50 point bonus

NCLC 7 or higher in French adds 25 CRS points on its own, and 50 when your English is CLB 5 or better. This applies in every draw, not only the French ones.

Said plainly: A1 on its own earns no CRS points. Only an approved test result at NCLC 7 or above counts toward Express Entry. If you already read French and need test technique, an A1 course is not what you want. It is the right starting point if you are beginning from zero and would rather have a teacher than an app.

Seats are the bottleneck, not the exam

In Toronto and Vancouver, seats fill roughly 4 to 8 weeks ahead during peak Express Entry months, and some quarterly registration windows have filled within days of opening. Plan the level first and the sitting second: booking a date you are not ready for wastes the fee, and the next seat may be two months away.
