Which LanguageCert level do I need for UK settlement (ILR)?

For UK Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR/Settlement), you need B1 level in Speaking and Listening only. Take the LanguageCert International ESOL SELT B1 (Speaking & Listening) exam. Cost is $165 USD. You don't need to prove Reading and Writing for ILR.

Which LanguageCert level do I need for UK citizenship?

For British citizenship (naturalisation), you need B1 level in Speaking and Listening. Take the LanguageCert International ESOL SELT B1 (Speaking & Listening) exam. This is the same requirement as settlement (ILR). If you already passed B1 for ILR, you can use the same certificate if it's still within 2 years.

What changed in UK Skilled Worker visa English requirement from January 2026?

IMPORTANT: From January 8, 2026, UK Skilled Worker visa English requirement increased from B1 to B2 level. This affects new applicants only. If you already have Skilled Worker visa granted under B1, you can continue using B1 for extensions. The change also applies to Scale-up and High Potential Individual visas. Take LanguageCert General SELT B2 for new applications.

Is LanguageCert accepted for UK Health and Care Worker visa?

Yes! LanguageCert General SELT is accepted for UK Health and Care Worker visa. You need B1 level in all 4 skills (Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking). This visa is for doctors, nurses, and healthcare professionals working in the NHS or social care sector.

What is the URN number and where do I find it?

URN (Unique Reference Number) is a code on your LanguageCert Test Report that UK Home Office uses to verify your results. You must include this URN in your UK visa application. It's automatically provided on your digital Test Report sent via email and uploaded to your LanguageCert account after you pass the exam.

Is LanguageCert accepted by UK universities?

Yes! LanguageCert is accepted by many UK universities including Russell Group institutions like University of Leeds and University of Manchester. However, each university has different score requirements. Always check with your specific university before booking the exam. LanguageCert Academic is designed for university admission.

What other English tests are approved for UK visa besides LanguageCert?

How long is LanguageCert exam?

How many parts are in LanguageCert speaking test?

LanguageCert speaking test has 4 parts: Part 1 (2-3.5 min): Introduction and interview questions about yourself. Part 2 (3-4.5 min): Discussion task with 20 seconds preparation. What is LanguageCert writing test format?

What is LanguageCert listening test format?

What is the pass mark for LanguageCert B2?

LanguageCert uses a 100-point scale. For B2 level: Pass = 60-74 points. High Pass = 75+ points. Below 60 = Fail (you get B1 certificate if you score 40-59). Your overall CEFR level is determined by your lowest skill score, not the average. So if you score B2 in 3 skills but B1 in one skill, your overall level is B1.

What is High Pass in LanguageCert?

High Pass means you scored 75+ out of 100 at your target level. It shows you performed well above the minimum pass mark (50-60 depending on level). High Pass looks good on your certificate but doesn't give you a higher CEFR level - you still get the level you registered for. Some universities may prefer High Pass.

Is LanguageCert speaking test with human or computer?

LanguageCert speaking test is with a REAL HUMAN interlocutor (examiner), not a computer. This is different from PTE which uses computer scoring. Many students prefer human interaction because you can ask for clarification, the examiner adjusts to your pace, and it feels more natural like a conversation.

Can I take LanguageCert Written and Spoken exams separately?

Yes! You can take the Written exam (Listening, Reading, Writing) and Spoken exam separately. They must be completed within 14 days of each other. You get separate Statements of Results for each. This flexibility helps if you need more time to prepare for one section.

Can I retake only one section of LanguageCert if I fail?

Not exactly. If you pass Speaking but fail Written (or vice versa), you keep the passed section and only retake the failed one. But within Written (Listening, Reading, Writing), you cannot retake individual skills - you must retake the entire Written exam. The Take2 option gives you a discounted full retake.

How is LanguageCert overall score calculated?

Your overall CEFR level is determined by your LOWEST skill score, not the average. Example: If you score B2 in Listening, Reading, and Speaking, but B1 in Writing, your overall level is B1. This is important - you must reach your target level in ALL required skills to pass at that level.

I'm scared of the speaking test. What should I do?

Speaking anxiety is normal! LanguageCert speaking is with a friendly human examiner who wants you to succeed. Tips: Practice speaking English daily (not just during study), do mock interviews, learn the 4-part format, prepare for common topics. My English is weak. Can I still pass LanguageCert?

Yes, with proper preparation! LanguageCert has levels from A1 (beginner) to C2 (mastery). For UK spouse visa, you only need A1 - the lowest level. For student visa, B1-B2 is required. Start with your current level, follow a structured course, practice daily, and give yourself enough time. Many of our students started from weak English and passed.

What if I have technical issues during online exam?

Everything you need to know about LanguageCert for UK visa

LanguageCert is an English language test approved by UK Home Office for visa applications. It tests your Speaking, Listening, Reading, and Writing skills. You can take it at a test center or online. Results come in 3-5 working days. It's accepted for UK student visa, work visa, spouse visa, and settlement applications.

Yes! LanguageCert is one of only 4 approved SELT (Secure English Language Test) providers for UK visa applications. The others are IELTS, Trinity College London, and Pearson PTE. LanguageCert is owned by PeopleCert Group and regulated by Ofqual (UK qualification authority) with recognition number RN6001.

Academic SELT tests all 4 skills (L/R/W/S) at B1-C2 levels for UK student visa. General SELT also tests all 4 skills at A2-C1 levels for UK work visa. International ESOL SELT tests only Speaking & Listening at A1-B1 levels for UK spouse visa, settlement (ILR), and citizenship.

Academic SELT (4 skills): $165 USD (~₹15,500). General SELT (4 skills): $165 USD (~₹15,500). Speaking & Listening only (2 skills): $165 USD (~₹15,500). The Take2 retake option costs extra but gives you a free retake if you fail.

LanguageCert SELT results are valid for 2 years from the exam date for UK visa applications. You must apply for your visa within this 2-year window. After 2 years, you need to retake the exam.

Results are delivered in 3-5 working days. For online exams, you may see preliminary results within 15 minutes. Official results are sent via email and uploaded to your LanguageCert account. You get a URN (Unique Reference Number) for your UK visa application.

Take2 is exam insurance. Pay a small extra fee when booking, and if you fail, you get a FREE retake. You must purchase Take2 up to 15 minutes before your exam starts. If you fail, you receive a voucher to retake within 6 months (International ESOL) or 14 days (SELT).

For UK visa applications, you must take the SELT version at an approved test center - online home testing is NOT accepted for UKVI. However, for university admission only (non-visa purposes), some universities accept the online proctored version.

Two separate exams: Written (L/R/W) & Spoken (S). Take them together or apart within 14 days.

Spoken Exam

1-on-1 with Human Interlocutor.
