Do US Universities Check DET Sub-Scores?
Most US universities focus on the overall DET score rather than individual sub-scores (Literacy, Comprehension, Conversation, Production). However, some competitive programs — especially in communications, journalism, or MBA — may look at specific sub-scores. Read our DET sub-scores guide for details.
Pro Tip
Conditional Admission with Lower DET Scores
Some US universities offer conditional admission for students with DET scores slightly below the minimum. This typically means you attend an English language program (ESL/pathway) before starting your degree. While not ideal, it provides an entry point for students who need more time to improve their English.
