What is Type D Italy Student Visa

Universitaly Pre-Enrollment
Universitaly.it is the official Italian government portal for university pre-enrollment by international students. All Indian students applying to Italian universities must register on Universitaly and submit programme selections to their nearest Italian Consulate. The portal acts as the pre-visa gateway — without Universitaly approval, the consulate cannot process your Type D visa. Universitaly opens annually in April–May for the following September intake.
CIMEA (alternative to Dichiarazione di Valore)
The CIMEA Statement of Comparability + Statement of Verification is a fully online credential evaluation issued via cimea.it (no consulate visit). Per universitaly.it and the MUR (Ministero dell'Università e della Ricerca), Italian universities and consulates accept either CIMEA or the older Dichiarazione di Valore (DOV) at their discretion — CIMEA is an alternative, not a blanket replacement, though it has become the preferred option since January 2024. Per the 2026 Italian consular living-cost table you must show approximately €594/month (€7,128/year) for the full programme duration — roughly €7,128 (₹6.7 lakh) for 1 year, €14,256 (₹13.3 lakh) for 2 years. Acceptable proofs: bank balance in your name or sponsor's name held for at least 3-6 months, fixed deposits, education loan sanction letter from recognised Indian bank, or scholarship award letter. DSU scholarship award counts toward this requirement. Exact figure varies slightly by consulate.
