MS in Italy 2026delivers world-ranked engineering and business master's degrees at Europe's lowest tuition — Politecnico di Milano at €3,893.04/year (2025-26 non-EU full rate per polimi.it) and Bocconi University MSc at €18,550/year (2026-27 per unibocconi.eu). 600+ English-taught master's programmes, the Schengen visa, and the 9–12 month post-study residence permit (Permesso di Soggiorno per Attesa Occupazione) make Italy a strong cost-conscious choice alongside Germany and France.
Why MS in Italy 2026
Four reasons drive Indian students to Italy: cost (public university total master's ₹10–14 lakh/year), university brand (Politecnico Milano top engineering, Bocconi strong global MiM), English ecosystem (600+ programmes), and post-study work pathway (9–12 month Permesso di Soggiorno per Attesa Occupazione). Italy hosts 3,500+ Indian students in 2026 and is growing fast as a Germany alternative for budget-conscious families.
MS Programme Duration
Most MS (Laurea Magistrale) programmes in Italy are 2 years (4 semesters / 120 ECTS credits). Some 1-year intensive master's exist at Politecnico Milano and Bocconi. Programme structure: coursework, thesis (typically 6 months in semester 4), and frequently an internship semester at a partnering company. PhD programmes (Dottorato di Ricerca) follow and are funded at €16,243/year gross.

GPA and Test Score Requirements

Most Italian master's programmes require: 3 or 4-year bachelor with minimum 60–70% aggregate (top programmes ask 75%+), IELTS 6.0–6.5 (some Politecnico Milano programmes ask 6.5+ with no band below 6.0), GMAT 645+ for Bocconi business master's, GRE 315+ for Politecnico Milano engineering. PhD requires master's + research proposal + supervisor approval. Italian universities use ECTS conversion for Indian grades.
Italian Language Requirement
Not required for English-taught MS programmes, which number over 600 in Italy. You need IELTS 6.0–6.5 or TOEFL iBT 90+ for English-medium programmes. Italian-taught MS programmes require B2-level Italian (CILS B2 or CELI B2). Learning basic Italian (A1–A2) is recommended for daily life, internships and integration. EEC partners with Italian Cultural Institute for A1–B2 coaching in India.
