What a mock test is actually for

A mock is not a score, it is a diagnosis. Sitting twelve of them and reading only the band at the end is the most common way students waste a mock bank. The value is in the gap between what you thought you did and what the report says you did.

So the sequence that works is: one mock cold, to find the weakest module. Then targeted practice on that module only. Then another full mock a week later to check the number moved. Repeat until it holds across two sittings — that is when you book the real exam.

On every Speaking and Writing question you also get Band 6, 7 and 8 sample answers side by side, with notes on exactly what moved each one up. Seeing the next band written out is faster than being told you are “close to it”.

How many IELTS mock tests should I take before the exam?
