Read the speaking column first: at every level above functional it is the highest of the four, which is why preparing to one flat number is the most common way to fail. Yes. The Department of Home Affairs accepts LANGUAGECERT Academic for visa purposes, for tests taken on or after 7 August 2025, sat at a secure test centre. It covers every visa type that requires evidence of English, including student, graduate and skilled migration visas.
The four thresholds are different: 57 in listening, 60 in reading, 64 in writing and 70 in speaking. It is not one flat number in every skill, and speaking is the highest bar by a wide margin — which is why candidates who prepare to a single target so often miss. You must clear all four; a strong overall result does not rescue a weak speaking score.
