Test-preparation courses in Australia typically run A$300–A$600. At roughly A$112 for 26 hours of live teaching, this is cheaper because it is taught from India at Indian salaries — not because it is shorter or automated. Separately, the LanguageCert exam fee is paid to LanguageCert: they list it at ₹16,430 in India, with results in 5 working days.

Straight from the Department of Home Affairs, for tests taken on or after 7 August 2025. Read the speaking column first: at every level above functional it is the highest of the four, which is why preparing to one flat number is the most common way to fail. You must clear all four — a strong overall result does not rescue a weak skill.
| Level | Listening | Reading | Writing | Speaking | Score must be from |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Functional EnglishMany partner and family visas | An overall band of 38 — the only level scored overall rather than skill by skill | the 12 months before you apply | |||
| Vocational EnglishSome employer-sponsored work visas, depending on the stream | 41 | 44 | 45 | 54 | the 3 years before you apply |
| Competent EnglishThe baseline for skilled migration and the usual bar for student and graduate visas | 57 | 60 | 64 | 70 | the 3 years before you apply |
| Proficient EnglishExtra points on the skilled points test | 67 | 71 | 78 | 82 | the 3 years before you apply |
| Superior EnglishThe most points available for English on the skilled points test | 80 | 83 | 89 | 89 | the 3 years before you apply |
Proficient and superior English earn extra points on the skilled points test. Those point values are set in the migration regulations, not by the test provider, so check the official points calculator for your subclass. Checked 2026-08-08.
All three are accepted by Home Affairs and all three are marked skill by skill. We coach all of them, so this table is not an argument for the one on this page.
| Test | Competent | Proficient | Where it helps |
|---|---|---|---|
| LANGUAGECERT Academic | 57 / 60 / 64 / 70 | 67 / 71 / 78 / 82 | Cheapest of the three in India, results in about 5 working days, and the same sitting also covers a UK visa. |
| IELTS (Academic or General) | 6.0 in each band | 7.0 in each band | The most test centres and the most practice material anywhere. Accepted by Immigration New Zealand too, which LanguageCert is not. |
| PTE Academic | 47 / 48 / 51 / 54 | 58 / 59 / 69 / 76 | Fastest results and fully computer-marked. Rebuilt on 7 August 2025, so older score comparisons no longer apply. |

LanguageCert's official directory lists no approved centre in Hobart as of 2026-08-08. The nearest listed centres are in Melbourne, so plan for travel on test day. We would rather tell you that now than let you find out after paying. New centres do open — check the official directory before you book.

State and territory nomination for the points-tested skilled visas is run by each government separately, so the requirements a reader in Hobart faces are set by Tasmania and not by Canberra. Occupation lists and eligibility change every program year, so we link the authority rather than reprinting a list that would go stale and mislead you.

Yes. The Department of Home Affairs accepts LANGUAGECERT Academic for visa purposes, for tests taken on or after 7 August 2025, sat at a secure test centre. It covers every visa type that requires evidence of English, including student, graduate and skilled migration visas.
The four thresholds are different: 57 in listening, 60 in reading, 64 in writing and 70 in speaking. It is not one flat number in every skill, and speaking is the highest bar by a wide margin — which is why candidates who prepare to a single target so often miss. You must clear all four; a strong overall result does not rescue a weak speaking score.
No. Home Affairs does not accept tests delivered entirely online and names LANGUAGECERT Academic Online specifically, alongside IELTS Online, CELPIP Online, OET@Home and the TOEFL iBT Home Edition. Book the Test Centre option, or the result cannot be used. Our coaching is online; the exam is not.
For vocational, competent, proficient and superior English, Home Affairs accepts a score achieved in the three years before you lodge your application, depending on the subclass. Functional English must be from the previous 12 months. The same three-year rule applies to IELTS and PTE Academic, so LanguageCert does not give you a longer window than they do — a claim you will see repeated on a lot of sites.
LanguageCert lists the Academic test at ₹16,430 in India, with official results in 5 working days. That is cheaper than IELTS and PTE Academic in India. The exam runs about 2 hours 34 minutes, and the written and spoken components can be taken on separate days.
Yes. Proficient and superior English are worth additional points on the skilled points test, above the competent English baseline. The point values are set in the migration regulations rather than by the test provider, so check the Department of Home Affairs points calculator for the figure that applies to your visa subclass.

Every class is live with a real EEC teacher, not a recording.
