For 2026, the UK Home Office requires Indian student visa applicants to show tuition fee for the first academic year as stated on the CAS letter, PLUS maintenance funds at £1,529/month for London courses (up to 9 months = £13,761) or £1,171/month for outside London(up to 9 months = £10,539). Funds must be held in your or your parent's account for 28 consecutive days, with a bank statement issued no more than 31 days before submission. Education loan sanction letters from regulated lenders are accepted. EEC manages the complete UK visa financial documentation with a 96% approval rate.
UK Visa Financial Requirements 2026 Overview
The financial requirement under UK Immigration Rules Appendix Finance has two components — tuition fee for the first academic year (or full programme if shorter than 9 months) plus monthly maintenance funds. The rates have been progressively updated by UKVI; the current 2026 figures are £1,529/month for London and £1,171/month for outside London. If you have already paid tuition deposit, the proof-of-funds requirement reduces by that amount as stated on your CAS letter.

What Counts as Proof of Funds
Acceptable proofs under UKVI Appendix Finance: cash funds in your name or your parent's name held for 28 consecutive days, ending no more than 31 days before the visa application date. Acceptable accounts: savings account, current account, fixed deposit, loan account with disbursement letter, scholarship award letter. NOT acceptable: shares, mutual funds, property, PPF, EPF, life insurance surrender value, business assets. Loan funds must be sanctioned (sanction letter required) and from regulated lenders.
28-Day Continuous Balance Rule
UKVI Appendix Finance paragraph FIN 2.1 requires the required funds to be held in your account (or your parent's account with consent letter) for 28 continuous days, with the closing balance on the 28th day not falling below the required amount, and the bank statement issued no more than 31 days before the visa application date. If your balance dipped even £1 below required on any day during the 28-day window, the visa officer can refuse. Loan account exception: lump-sum loans count from the day of disbursement.
Warning
Documents Required for Proof of Funds
Required for 2026: original bank statement on the bank's letterhead (or letter from the bank manager) showing 28 consecutive days of balance ending within 31 days before submission, account holder name, account number, bank name and contact details, balance in INR or GBP, and bank stamp / signature. For parent-sponsored applications: parent's bank statement + parent's consent letter on non-judicial stamp paper + birth certificate proving relationship + ID copies.
Parental and Sponsor Funds
UKVI accepts parents and legal guardians as sponsors. You must submit: parent's bank statement showing the required funds held for 28 days, a parent's consent letter signed and dated, your birth certificate proving the parent-child relationship, and parent's ID copy (passport or Aadhaar). Siblings, uncles, friends or distant relatives CANNOT sponsor a UK student visa — only parents, legal guardians, and the applicant themselves. UK universities can sponsor via scholarship letters that explicitly state the amount and currency.
Education Loan as Proof of Funds

Yes — but with strict conditions. The loan must be from a regulated bank or financial institution in your country, the sanction letter must clearly state the loan amount in INR or GBP, beneficiary name (student), purpose (UK education), tenure and disbursement schedule. Approved Indian lenders for UK visa include SBI, BoB, HDFC Credila, Avanse, Auxilo, Inc Red, GyanDhan, Eduvanz, Prodigy Finance. Disbursed loan funds are counted from the disbursement date — the 28-day rule does not apply if loan is sanctioned but not disbursed.
How Much for a London Master's in 2026
For a 1-year master's in London at a typical fee of £25,000 and 9 months of maintenance: tuition £25,000 + maintenance £13,761 = £38,761 total (around ₹43.8 lakh) to show on UKVI proof of funds. If the CAS letter shows a tuition deposit of £5,000 already paid, proof of funds reduces to £33,761. For outside London at a fee of £18,000: £18,000 + £10,539 = £28,539 (around ₹32.2 lakh).
CAS Letter Role in Visa
CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies) is a unique 14-digit reference number issued by your UK university after you pay the tuition deposit. CAS contains course name, course length, tuition fee, deposit already paid, English language certificate details, and CAS expiry date (6 months). You can apply for the UK student visa only AFTER receiving CAS, and within 6 months of CAS issue date. EEC coordinates with universities for fast CAS turnaround.
Common UK Visa Refusal Reasons
