Percentile Chart 2026
GMAT Focus 2026 percentile chart (GMAC official): 805 = 99th, 745 = 97th, 705 = 90th, 685 = 85th, 665 = 80th, 645 = 75th, 605 = 65th, 565 = 50th (median), 525 = 35th, 485 = 25th. The 90th percentile (705+ Focus) is the traditional "top MBA target" — Harvard, Stanford, Wharton, INSEAD, HEC Paris recommend 705+. The 75th percentile (645 Focus) is the floor for ISB, IIM-A PGPX and tier-2 US programmes.
Target Scores for Top MBA Schools
Target Focus Edition scores by school cluster: Harvard / Stanford / Wharton / MIT Sloan / Booth / Kellogg / Columbia 705+ (90th percentile, class average 690–710). INSEAD / HEC Paris / LBS / IESE / IE / ESADE / Bocconi 685+ (85th percentile, class average 670–690). Tier-2 US (Tepper, Ross, Fuqua, Anderson, Yale SOM, McCombs) 645+ (75th percentile). ISB Hyderabad PGP 685+. IIM-A PGPX / IIM-B EPGP 685+.
Quantitative Reasoning Scoring
GMAT Focus Quantitative Reasoning: 21 questions in 45 minutes, computer-adaptive, scored 60–90. To score 85+ (90th percentile Quant), target 18+ correct out of 21 with fast pace (~2 min/question average). The Focus Quant section dropped Geometry entirely and focuses on Algebra, Arithmetic, Numbers Properties, Percent / Ratio / Mixture / Speed problems and Word Problems. Indian engineers and STEM grads typically score Quant 86+ with focused 60-hour preparation.
Verbal Reasoning Scoring

GMAT Focus Verbal Reasoning: 23 questions in 45 minutes, computer-adaptive, scored 60–90. Verbal tests two question types only — Critical Reasoning (logic-heavy argument analysis) and Reading Comprehension (4 short academic passages). Sentence Correction was removed from Focus. To score 85+ Verbal (90th percentile), target 20+ correct out of 23. Indian non-English-medium graduates often score Verbal 78–82 — the typical weak section.
Data Insights Scoring
GMAT Focus Data Insights: 20 questions in 45 minutes, scored 60–90. Tests 5 question types — Data Sufficiency (now in Data Insights, not Quant), Multi-Source Reasoning, Table Analysis, Graphics Interpretation and Two-Part Analysis. Data Insights is the newest section (introduced in Focus Edition Nov 2023) and tests real-world business analytics skills. Many Indian aspirants find this the hardest section initially because it differs from anything in CAT, JEE or other Indian standardised tests.
GMAT Score Impact on Scholarships
A strong GMAT Focus score is the single highest-leverage factor for MBA scholarships at top schools. ISB Pro Vice-Chancellor merit scholarships ($30,000–$50,000) typically require 705+ Focus. HEC Foundation Scholarship at €25,000 expects 685+. Bocconi MBA full-tuition scholarships need 705+. IE Foundation 50–100% tuition starts at 645+. Strong GMAT + diverse profile (women, military, social impact, Tier-2 city Indian student) frequently unlocks $50,000–$100,000 scholarships.
