TOEFL iBT: 1 hr 56 min, 4 skills (Reading, Listening, Speaking, Writing — all on computer with recorded speaking), academic only. PTE Academic: ₹18,900 (incl. GST). PTE Core (Canada PR): ₹18,900. Add reschedule fee ~₹3,300 for IELTS, $60 for TOEFL, ₹3,800 for PTE. Which is Easier for Indian Students
For Indian engineers and tech graduates, PTE Academic often feels easier — pure AI scoring (no accent bias) and shorter duration. For students comfortable with face-to-face conversation, IELTS Speaking feels more natural. For students from CBSE / ICSE backgrounds with American English exposure, TOEFL feels familiar in vocabulary and accent. EEC's diagnostic test recommends best fit based on a 90-minute multi-test sample.

PTE Academic publishes scores within 24–48 hours of test completion — fastest in the industry. TOEFL iBT publishes scores in 4–8 days. IELTS computer-delivered publishes in 3–5 days; paper-based in 13 days. UK Visa Acceptance — UKVI SELT Rules
For the UK student visa (Student Route), you need a UKVI Secure English Language Test (SELT). Accepted SELT providers in 2026: IELTS for UKVI (Academic or General Training), PTE Academic UKVI, LanguageCert UKVI, and Trinity College ISE. Pure TOEFL iBT is NOT accepted for UK visa purposes. Universities may accept regular IELTS / TOEFL for admission but the visa always needs a SELT-tagged test.
Canada PR Acceptance — IRCC Rules
For Canada PR through Express Entry (FSWP, CEC, FSTP), IRCC accepts only IELTS General Training, CELPIP General and PTE Core (added late 2023). TOEFL iBT is NOT accepted by IRCC for PR purposes. For Canada study permit, TOEFL is accepted by universities and visa officers but IELTS or CELPIP is still preferred.
US University Acceptance
Most US universities accept all three tests for admission. TOEFL iBT remains the most popular (historical preference at MIT, Harvard, Stanford, CMU). IELTS Academic is accepted at 3,400+ US institutions including all Ivy League. PTE Academic is accepted at 1,500+ US universities. For graduate applications, target TOEFL Band 4.5+ or IELTS 6.5–7.0 or PTE 58–65 as a baseline; competitive STEM programmes ask for TOEFL Band 5.0+ / IELTS 7.0+ / PTE 65+.
