Planning to take the TOEFL iBT in India in 2026? The first step after deciding to take the test is finding a convenient test centre. India has hundreds of ETS-authorised TOEFL test centres across major cities, and with the new TOEFL format launched on January 21, 2026, all Indian test centres now deliver the updated ~2-hour exam with the 1-6 band scoring scale. This guide from EEC's test preparation experts provides a city-by-city breakdown of TOEFL test centres in India, booking instructions, and essential test-day information.

TOEFL Test Centres in India: Overview

ETS operates TOEFL test centres through a network of authorised testing partners across India. Major cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Ahmedabad have multiple centres, while smaller cities typically have one or two. All centres now administer the new TOEFL format exclusively — the old 3-hour format is no longer available. Test dates are available nearly every week in major metros and at least 2-3 times per month in smaller cities. If you are still deciding between TOEFL and other English proficiency tests, our TOEFL vs IELTS comparison can help you choose the right test for your target universities.

Pro Tip

Book your TOEFL test at least 3-4 weeks in advance for major cities and 4-6 weeks for smaller cities, especially during peak seasons (August-November and January-March). Popular centres in Mumbai and Delhi fill up fast. EEC helps you secure your preferred date and centre.

Ahmedabad TOEFL Test Centres

Ahmedabad is a major TOEFL testing hub in Gujarat, with 5-8 active test centres running the new TOEFL format. Popular centres include those operated by Prometric and other ETS-authorised partners in areas like Satellite, SG Highway, CG Road, and Navrangpura. Most centres offer tests on weekends and some weekdays. Gujarat students from nearby cities like Gandhinagar, Mehsana, and Anand often prefer Ahmedabad centres for their accessibility and frequent test dates.

With EEC's 26 centres across Gujarat, Ahmedabad students have the added advantage of combining TOEFL coaching with convenient test centre access. EEC's Ahmedabad coaching centres are located near major test centres, making it easy to train and test in the same area. Explore EEC TOEFL coaching in Ahmedabad.

EEC's Ahmedabad TOEFL coaching centres offer classroom, online live, and recorded batches at ₹7,500. Our trainers know exactly which Ahmedabad test centres are best and help you book the ideal slot.

Mumbai TOEFL Test Centres

Mumbai has the highest concentration of TOEFL test centres in India, with 15-20 active centres across the metropolitan area. Major testing locations include centres in Andheri, Borivali, Thane, Navi Mumbai, Lower Parel, and Fort. Mumbai centres offer tests almost daily, making it the easiest city in India to find a last-minute TOEFL slot. For students from Pune, Nashik, and other Maharashtra cities, Mumbai offers the most flexible testing options.

The TOEFL fee at all Indian test centres is ₹16,900 (approximately US $205), regardless of city. This fee covers the new ~2-hour format with all four sections, score reporting to up to 4 universities, and your MyBest scores report. Late registration (within 2-4 days of the test) incurs an additional fee of approximately $40 (₹3,300+). See complete TOEFL fee details.

Delhi / NCR TOEFL Test Centres

The Delhi-NCR region (including New Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad, and Faridabad) has 15-18 test centres, making it the second-largest TOEFL testing hub in India. Popular centres are located in Connaught Place, Karol Bagh, Laxmi Nagar, Noida Sector 18/62, and Gurugram Cyber City. Test availability is excellent — most centres run multiple sessions per week, and you can often find slots within 1-3 days during non-peak periods.

Warning

Delhi-NCR experiences extreme peak demand during October-November (fall intake applications) and January-February (spring deadlines). During these periods, popular centres may be fully booked 4-6 weeks out. Plan ahead and register early. EEC counsellors help you plan your test timeline to avoid last-minute scrambles.

Bangalore TOEFL Test Centres

Bangalore has 10-15 TOEFL test centres spread across the city, with popular locations in Koramangala, Indiranagar, Whitefield, Electronic City, and Jayanagar. As India's IT capital, Bangalore sees strong demand from working professionals looking to study MS in the USA or pursue master's programmes in Germany. Weekend slots fill up fastest. Most Bangalore centres offer the test 3-5 times per week.

Good News

Bangalore's high concentration of test centres means excellent availability even during peak periods. Unlike smaller cities, you can usually find a Bangalore TOEFL slot within a week. The city's tech infrastructure also ensures reliable centre equipment and smooth test experiences.

Pro Tip

If your local city doesn't have a convenient test date, consider the TOEFL Home Edition — you can take the exact same new-format test from your home computer with a live proctor. Same fee (₹16,900), same score, same university acceptance. Ask EEC about the Home Edition option.

How to Book a TOEFL Test Centre

Step-by-Step Registration Process

Step 1: Create an account on the ETS TOEFL website (www.ets.org/toefl). Use the same name that appears on your valid passport — name mismatches will prevent you from taking the test. Step 2: Select "Register for TOEFL iBT" and choose India as your test country. Step 3: Browse available test dates and centres by city. You can filter by date range, morning/afternoon slots, and specific centre names. Step 4: Select your preferred centre and date, add up to 4 free score recipients (universities), and proceed to payment. Step 5: Pay the fee of ₹16,900 using credit card, debit card, or PayPal. You will receive a confirmation email with your registration number, test date, time, and centre address.

You can reschedule your test up to 4 days before the test date for a rescheduling fee of approximately $60 (₹5,000). Cancellation more than 4 days before returns 50% of the fee. See complete fee and registration details.

Confused by the registration process? EEC's support team walks you through TOEFL registration, university score sending, and test scheduling — free of charge for all enrolled students.

TOEFL Home Edition: The Alternative to Test Centres

If no convenient test centre or date is available near you, the TOEFL Home Edition lets you take the exact same new-format exam from your personal computer at home, monitored by a live human proctor via webcam. The fee is the same (₹16,900), the format is identical, scores are reported the same way, and every university that accepts TOEFL accepts the Home Edition. This is especially useful for students in smaller cities without nearby test centres or during peak booking periods. See our complete Home Edition guide.

Good News

The TOEFL Home Edition is available 24/7 — you can book a slot on any day, including weekends and holidays. For students in Tier 2/3 cities or rural areas, this eliminates the need to travel to a metro city for the test. EEC helps you set up and prepare for the Home Edition.

What to Bring on Test Day

When you arrive at a TOEFL test centre in India, you must bring a valid passport as your primary identification document. ETS requires a passport for all Indian TOEFL test-takers — no other ID (Aadhaar, PAN, driving licence) is accepted. Your passport name must exactly match the name on your TOEFL registration. Arrive at the centre at least 30 minutes before your scheduled test time.

You are not allowed to bring: mobile phones, smartwatches, bags, food/drinks (except water in a clear bottle at some centres), notes, books, or any electronic devices. The centre provides scratch paper or an erasable whiteboard and pens. You will be assigned a computer workstation with headphones and a microphone for the Speaking section. See our complete exam day guide.

Warning

The most common reason Indian students are turned away from TOEFL test centres: name mismatch between passport and registration, or bringing an expired passport. Double-check your registration name and passport validity before test day. EEC's team verifies your registration details before you go.

“We see students turned away every test day because of passport name issues. Your first name and last name on the ETS account must match your passport EXACTLY — including spelling, order, and middle names. Get this right before anything else.”

— Neha Desai, TOEFL Operations Lead, EEC
